C’est avec le cœur lourd, alors qu’il a vécu une vie longue et merveilleuse, que nous annonçons le décès de Jean-Paul (Joe) Landry le 30 septembre 2025, époux aimant, et père, grand-père et arrière-grand-père rempli de fierté. Jean-Paul est né en 1929 à la maison, dans le petit village de Theriault Office, N.-B., fils de Lauza Theriault et Fidèle Landry.

Il a grandi avec ses parents, ses frères et sa sœur sur la ferme familiale de son grand-père, Philias Theriault. Jeune homme, Jean-Paul était reconnu pour son esprit vif et son sens de l’humour espiègle. Après avoir déménagé à Montréal à l’âge de 20 ans, il a rapidement décidé que travailler de longues heures dans une fonderie d’acier suffocante n’était pas pour lui, et il a plutôt choisi l’aventure.

Il s’est enrôlé dans l’Aviation canadienne, débutant ainsi un périple de près de 30 ans qui l’a mené aux quatre coins du monde, y compris à un bal communautaire à Saint-Avold, en France, en 1956, où il a rencontré l’amour de sa vie, une belle jeune femme nommée Janine. Ils se sont mariés six mois plus tard et ont eu cinq enfants nés dans trois pays différents, naviguant à travers 8 affectations et 9 domiciles différents avant que Joe prenne sa retraite après sa dernière affectation à la BFC Summerside en 1979.

Ne restant jamais inactif, Jean-Paul a entamé une deuxième carrière comme ingénieur stationnaire, passant de nombreuses années agréables à travailler pour Cavendish Farms et Summerside Seafood Supreme. En 1994, lui et Janine ont décidé qu’il était temps pour eux deux de prendre leur retraite, et ils ont effectué un dernier déménagement à Bertrand, N.-B.

Ce fut un nouveau chapitre bien rempli, avec des amis, de la famille, des parties de cartes, du sirop d’érable et beaucoup de bénévolat pour sa communauté, la Légion et l’Église.

J.P. n’a jamais perdu son sens de l’humour et a profité pleinement de la vie, en plaisantant toujours qu’il vivrait jusqu’à 100 ans, comme son père, et aucun d’entre nous n’auraient parié contre lui!

Repose en paix, papa, tu l’as bien mérité.

Fier arrière-grand-père d’Ava, Emily et Daniel Donnelly, Irishtown, N.-B. Il laisse également dans le deuil sa sœur Jacqueline Chamberlain, Bertrand, N.-B., et son frère Gérard Landry, Sainte-Rose, N.-B.

Il est parti rejoindre son épouse bien-aimée de 62 ans, Janine Landry (Deflandre); ses frères : Albanie (Anita) Landry et Gilles (Lucienne) Landry; son petit-fils Denis Landry; ses beaux-frères et belles-sœurs : Théophile Chamberlain, Edith Landry, Gisèle et Louis Sutter, Paulette et Casi Gapik, René Deflandre ainsi que ses neveux : Michel Landry et Daniel Gapik.

Un merci spécial à notre sœur, Nathalie Landry, qui a été l’admirable soignante à temps plein de papa depuis le décès de maman en 2019. Il disait souvent qu’il était « traité comme un roi », et il l’a certainement été!

La famille recevra parents et amis à compter de midi au salon de Bertrand, 650 Boul des Acadiens. Les funérailles seront célébrées en l’église Saint-Joachim de Bertrand le même jour à 14h.

After a long and wonderful life, it is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jean-Paul (Joe) Landry on September 30th, 2025, loving husband, proud father, grandfather and great grandfather. Jean-Paul was born in 1929 at home, in the small village of Theriault Office, NB, to Lauza Theriault and Fidele Landry.

He grew up with his parents, brothers and sister on the family farm of his grandfather, Philias Theriault. As a young man, Jean-Paul was known for his quick wit and playful sense of humour. After moving to Montreal at the age of 20, he quickly decided working long hours in a hot steel foundry was not for him so he chose adventure instead.

He enlisted in the Canadian Air Force and thus began an almost 30-year journey that brought him all over the world, including to a small community dance in Saint Avold, France, in 1956, where he met the love of his life, a beautiful young woman named Janine. They were married within six months and went on to have five children born in three different countries, navigating 8 postings and 9 different homes before retiring after his final posting at CFB Summerside in 1979.

Never one to sit idle, Jean-Paul then went on to his second career as a Stationary Engineer, where he spent many enjoyable years employed with Cavendish Farms and Summerside Seafood Supreme. In 1994, he and Janine decided it was time for both of them to retire and they made one more final move to Bertrand, NB.

This was a new and busy chapter filled with friends, family, card games, maple syrup and lots of volunteering for his community, Legion and Church.

J.P never lost his sense of humour and loved life to the fullest, always joking that he would live to be 100 years old just like his Dad and none of us would have ever bet against him!

Rest easy, Dad—you’ve earned it.

Predeceased by his loving wife of 62 years, Janine Landry (Deflandre); his brothers: Albanie (Anita) Landry and Gilles (Lucienne) Landry; his grandson Denis Landry, his brothers and sisters in law: Theophile Chamberlain, Edith Landry, Gisele and Louis Sutter, Paulette and Casi Gapik, Rene Deflandre and by nephews: Michel Landry and Daniel Gapik.

Special thanks goes out to our sister, Nathalie Landry, who was Dad’s wonderful fulltime caretaker since Mom passed in 2019. He often remarked that he was “treated like a King” in her care and he was!

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, from noon to 1:50pm at the salon of Bertrand, 650 Blvd des Acadiens. A funeral service for Joe will be held at 2 pm the same day at the Saint-Joachim church in Bertrand.
